As anyone who’s ever watched a Wes Anderson film will tell you, a mere description of the plot in no way prepares you for the sheer ingenuity and the delightful quirkiness of his work. His latest, Moonrise Kingdom, has many familiar elements from his earlier films – oddball characters, storybook visuals, an offbeat sense of humor, and yes, Bill Murray. Beautifully written, with much deadpan humor and a lot of sincere affection, the film benefits from some deliciously odd exchanges between its characters. Witty and whimsical in equal measure, it has the feel of a quirky fairytale, and bears Anderson’s stamp all over it…from the cartoonish ‘action’ scenes to the over-stylized production design.I’m going with four out of five for Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom. There’s sadness, emotional depth, and real feeling here. It’s a melancholic comedy that you absolutely shouldn’t miss!

Wes Anderson's latest cinematic pastry is a work of obsessive detailing and characteristically artful icing, all colours and dreamy sequences and frames good enough to eat. Yet Moonrise Kingdom -- which manages the stunning feat of being both entirely unreal as well as entirely relatable, both the stuff of children as well as the yearning of ex-children -- is one of the director's most emotionally fulfilling films, a curio-box cranked to play a tune good enough to moisten the eye. There is a spectacular amount of icing, to be sure, but the film merits every bit of this garnish. For it is also, remarkably enough, a fully-realised and quite overwhelming love story: a romance for the ages that also just happens to be an underage romance.

All Anderson's elements such as subtle humour, heightened realism, thethemes of precocious, children antagonised by parents, are present. Stellar performances from all makes Moonrise Kingdom a delightfulwatch. Gilman and Hayward are both excellent as they play their respective characters with their emotions nicely underplayed anddespite their dead-pan expressions they are an adorable pair. Moonrise Kingdom sweeps you off your feet; its innocence draws you in and leaves you with a big smile. This one is destined to go down as one of Anderson’s best.

Unfortunately, KAMAAL DHAMAAL MALAMAAL fails as a film, fails as an entertainer, fails to tickle your funny bone.Priyadarshan's comic entertainers have a similar template and KAMAAL DHAMAAL MALAMAAL is no exception. It takes off as a light-hearted entertainer and the comic doses, a few of them, are amusing. Unfortunately, in view of the fact that the film boasts of a powerhouse of talent and the fact that the man at the helm of affairs is Priyadarshan, one expects a lot of dhamaal, with several kamaal situations woven in the plot. But the kamaal and dhamaal are limited to the title, not the script or the performances by its actors. While the first half has a few interesting episodes, but seems stretched, the second hour seems never-ending, with not much meat in the screenplay. On the whole No kamaal or dhamaal this time. This one's a dud!

One thing Priyadarshan doesn't do is 'lose the plot' here; simply because there isn't one to begin with. With cliched humour that forces more yawns than laughs; blah-lines; Oddball characters and OTT situations; and of course the quintessential item number (Anjana Sukhani) that adds to the fizzle (Cross-our-hearts-and-hope-to-fry).Our suggestion? Skip it. And save yourself from becoming a bakra.

Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal is so terribly scripted and is so tediously long in its running time, you can go home and come back the next day to find the film still reaching its climax.Although the prequel was something that I found rollickingly funny, primarily because of its innocently scheming characters and a genuinely laid out dramatic premise, this one belongs to the Wall of Shame of absurdist films. First, there isn't any coherent story to KDM. It is a bunch of events clumped together in an episodic manner that seem like they were part of a long-running Doordarshan television show which never ended.

If you can overlook the outrageous suggestion that Nana Patekar could be Om Puri's son, then you're in for some clean, healthy, wholesome and engaging fun in this comic drama about a stranger who walks into a Catholic village and changes malfunctional lives with his positivity. Recurrent themes often give Priyadarshan comedies a sinking sense of sameness. A remake of a Malayalam film "Marykundoro Kunjaado", KDM is one of Priyadarshan's better potboilers in recent times. Tucked away in this rumbustious drama of mistaken identity and godforsaken raillery is a message on trust, belief and honesty. All of this is put forward with zero dependence on vulgarity. An interesting film, and far superior to the prolific Priyadarshan's other recent comedies like "De Dana Dan", "Khatta Meetha" and "Malamaal Weekly", a prequel to KDM.

A remake of a Malyalam blockbuster, KDM claims to be a “mad copic caper” but fails, in its duration of two and a half hours, to draw out even a single genuine laugh. The plot, along with being unoriginal, is boring and way too long. With Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal, what you see is what you get. The only way to get any laughs watching this film is to go with someone who will sit next to you and tell you knock-knock jokes throughout.

What’s Good: Paresh Rawal’s edgy and manipulative Peter Gonsalves and the moderately good cinematography. What’s Bad: Everything else!Loo Break: As many times you want to. Add to it, a Disprin dose.Watch or Not?: Only if you want to torture yourself, go for it! Else, just sit back home. Trying too hard to be a rip tickling comedy, yet another magical piece from Priyam sir’s hands, Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal ends up as a no brainer mindless satirical flick. Give this film a miss since you would just end up feeling that the Popcorn tub and the Cola bottle were the best things about the outing!

Shreyas Talpade is a nincompoop. He doesn’t believe in working, and is scared of even children thrashing him up. He is also in love with a rich, gorgeous girl in the village. Actually, the girl is in love with him. Why anyone would be attracted to this “nikamma” is anyone’s guess. This love story is the core of the entire picture. There is hardly any comedy.I suppose you must yawn through the whole film now to find out who Nana Patekar’s character actually is.
